The frst report focuses on the ‘foundation’ of the supervisory directorship, i.e. ‘the organisation/company’. The questions put to the respondents included: where is the company likely to be in 5 to 10 years’ time (expectations), what are its current and desired assets/strengths and which hurdles need to be overcome? Sub-report I also covers the subjects that are likely to require most of the Supervisory Directors’ attention (the agenda) in the coming year. The respondents were also asked to list the main areas for improvement for the SB and its individual members. For these open questions, the answers were divided into 3 categories: supervisory directors in the profit sector, supervisory directors in the non-profit sector and non-supervisory directors. As in previous years, a sufcient number of observations was obtained to allow for a breakdown by variant/benchmark for some of the questions. The overall assessment of the SB’s areas for improvement and the relevant levels of ambition provide a logical starting point for a frst, broad introduction to the supervisory directorship. In addition, a general overview of the respondents’ views will be given for a number of SB’s activities. A more detailed discussion will then be provided in the subsequent sub-reports.
